Finding Free Web Page Spaces On The Internet

June 3rd, 2008

It seems these days that just about everyone has their own personal web site. From very young children to grandparents and everyone in between, the popularity of personal expression on the Internet is gaining ground on a daily basis. But, how can someone on a budget enjoy having their own space without forking over a small fortune in design and hosting fees? It’s simple thanks to free web page spaces that many companies make available for personal use.

Free web page spaces can be found in a variety of locations. While offers for truly free, non-trial web sites tend to only be extended to individuals, this is not always the case. Most companies that offer free web page spaces do so for one of several reasons. In some cases, the free offer comes as part of another service. In other instances, the freebie is designed to pique the interest of paid clients through word-of-mouth advertising. Some companies also provide free hosting services with ads attached. A user gets the free site, but the company gets to enjoy any ad revenue generated.

So, how does one go about finding free web page spaces online? It’s fairly simple. Just look in these rather common places:

  • Through a personal Internet Service Provider. Most people will find if they have paid Internet accounts, they already have access to basically free web page spaces through them. Many ISPs offer a fair amount of perks that go along with helping members create their own personal pages and sites. The only downfall of this option tends to lie in the domain names. They typically are rather large by design, but the overall services tend to be rather solid for personal use. For example, many ISPs provide access to design programs and templates, offer support and generally make creating personal web pages a lot of fun for their members. In addition, the storage capacity that can come along with these sites tends to be quite decent. This is great for people who want to create family sites that are photo intensive.
  • Major hosting providers. Some of the biggest companies that cater to Internet hosting offer free web page spaces on a trial or even full-time basis. The idea behind this free service is to enable people to try out the host, the tools it provides and the services it offers. This is an excellent way to generate loyal fans and help spread word-of-mouth advertising. Plus, if a person on a free account wants to upgrade to a paid domain host, chances are they are going to stay put if they are happy with the service they have been provided.
  • Small services. Some smaller hosting companies provide free web page spaces for the same reasons that big companies do. In some cases, however, the free offers might come along with ads on a personal web site. Still, for very tailored, personal use, this is generally not a very big distraction or inconvenience.

Free web page spaces are available in a variety of places. If a person only requires very basic service to create a fun, personal or informational site, chances are there isn’t a need to pay for hosting services.
