What to Ask as I Create My Web Page
September 8th, 2011When I set out to create my web page I knew very little about what it would entail. Because I was starting from scratch I knew that assessing my needs was very important. How could I know what I needed to do if I had no clue what I hoped to accomplish? This led me to ask myself a few simple questions. The answers to these questions would easily lead me to the design I wanted and the results I was looking for.
- Why am I creating a web page?
- Will I create a free page or pay for hosting?
- Where will I get my content?
Why Did I Decide to Create My Web Page
This question sounds so simple, yet the answer can easily lead you through much of the process that comes with designing. Knowing the reason behind the page creation will tell you several things about your site.
- What content you need
- What features your hosting should have
- What kind of storage and bandwidth it will require
- What goals you have for your site
When it comes time to actually build a site you will need to know what to include on it. The best way to know that is to have determined from the very beginning what your goals and plans for the site were. If it was a simple personal site to share information then your needs will be far different from a large professional site that incorporates many extras. Always ask yourself the purpose of creating the site so that you can see what you need to do, provide and plan for as you build.
Will I Go with Free or Paid Hosting?
A common battle that you may have with yourself is whether or not you should pay for hosting. There are advantages and disadvantages to doing both. In the end the decision will be one that you have to make, but it helps to know a few things first. When I set out to create my web page I looked at the purpose for the page, the storage and bandwidth I would need, the features I wanted and what my budget was. All of this works together to let you know if you need to pay for your hosting or not. Finding the right provider is simple when you take advantage of web hosting reviews. The experiences of others can quickly lead you to the best web hosting sites so that you can rest easy with your decision, whichever it ends up being.
Where Will I Get My Content?
Content can be the deciding factor in whether a website is good or not. It can also determine whether or not it has visitors. That is why it is important from the beginning to know where that content is coming from. If you are simply creating an online store then the content will be easy to produce. If, however, you are creating an information site you will want to ensure that your content is factual and relevant. It should also be presented well. Sometimes this means outsourcing the work to others. Before you begin designing a site, spend some time making sure that the content is going to be what you want it to be and where it is going to come from.
When I set out to create my web page I found these questions to be helpful. When I knew what I wanted to do and how I was going to do it, the actual design became simpler. You will find that with the right answers ahead of time, you can develop the page you want quickly and see the results you desire easily.
